Course Description:
Medical Administrative Specialist |
Learn how to maintain financial information (spread sheets), gain business phone skills, interpersonal skills, computer skills (including managing MS Word documents and creating documents), as well as understand the medical billing process with this program. You'll also gain first-hand experience with different insurance products and learn to create a medical insurance claim on behalf of a patient. We'll teach you how to fill out a CMS (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services) electronically and in paper form-daily tasks that are crucial in this field. You'll also gain knowledge in Medical Terminology, Anatomy & Physiology, Medical Billing & Insurance, Medical Ethics and Law, and Pharmacology. Additionally, you'll gain an understanding of the growing importance of security and privacy of medical records - HIPAA (Healthcare Insurance, Portability & Accountability Act). Upon the successful completion of all classes, you can apply to serve in an Externship that provides invaluable practical experience under the supervision of Doctors and staff at a cooperating physician's office, clinic, or other healthcare facility. Our Medical Administration Certificate Program provides the foundation to pursue further training in Medical Assisting and/or Medical Coding and Billing.

Medical Administrative Specialists work most of their time in the “front” office of a physician office, clinic or hospital.
A medical administrative specialist must be outgoing, patient, and have an attention to detail. Also, must be willing to learn new procedures, laws and insurance filing forms.
